Dental Sealants

A sealant is a clear or shaded plastic material that is applied to the chewing surfaces (grooves) of the back teeth (premolars and molars), where four out of five cavities in children are found. Molars have grooves that are susceptible to germs and bacteria (eww) that build up when icky food particles get trapped in them. Regular brushing is a must, but even the most dedicated brushers have trouble keeping the grooves free of germs. Dental sealants act as a barrier to food, plaque and acid, thus protecting the decay-prone areas of the teeth. According to the American Dental Association (ADA), sealants reduce your child’s risk of cavities by 80%.

Dental sealants are not only safe but they are minimally invasive. They are made of medical grade resin and are applied with a brush that allows them to flow into the micro grooves and crevices of your littles teeth. Because they are not painful, numbing agents or anesthesia are not required. Also, no drilling is involved, phew!
