DIAGNOdent®

Dental sedation is a technique that can be used when a patient suffers from dental anxiety or dental phobia. We are happy to offer a number of solutions for our patients to make their dental visit as comfortable as possible. Sedation dentistry techniques enable patients who might otherwise avoid the dentist, to receive dental treatment necessary for a healthy smile. Depending on the extent of the anxiety or phobia, varying degrees of dental sedation can be utilized as described below:

OraVerse™

Our practice now offers a new product (OraVerse™) that reverses the effects of local anesthesia. This new measure of comfort is for patients who dislike the lingering numbness that can last for 3-5 hours after leaving our office. To deliver superior care, we’re always finding better ways to ensure comfort and improve your child’s dental experience. OraVerse™ is the first and only product proven safe and effective in accelerating a return to normal sensation and function after a local anesthetic containing a vasoconstrictor has been used. Talk to Dr. Khatri about its indications for your child, and read about it online at www.OraVerse.com.

SILVER DIAMINE FLUORIDE (SDF) TREATMENT

Silver Diamine Fluoride is a safe and effective form of fluoride that has been used in international dental circles for decades. It was recently introduced in the United States and approved by the FDA and ADA, having an incredible impact on how pediatric dental specialists are able to treat and manage dental caries (decay). Different from traditional fluoride therapy, SDF is a powerful antibacterial agent used to kill and arrest the harmful bacteria that is breaking down the enamel of a tooth. Using this type of therapy can often prevent a cavity from spreading to the surrounding teeth.

The treatment consists of drying the affected teeth off, and applying the medicine with a small brush. Often, Dr. Khatri will shine a curing light onto the treated teeth, allowing the medicine to “cure.” The main downside is the affected areas (where the bacteria live) will turn a dark brown/black color once treated. This stain can be removed with traditional dental fillings and restorations.

Dr. Khatri might recommend this type of care for your little in combination or as an alternative to traditional models of dental treatment. If you think your child might be a candidate, talk to Doc or one of our castmates. They will be happy to review the protocol and indications with you.
