Dental Sealants

A sealant is a clear or shaded plastic material that is applied to the chewing surfaces (grooves) of the back teeth (premolars and molars), where four out of five cavities in children are found. Molars have grooves that are susceptible to germs and bacteria (eww) that build up when icky food particles get trapped in them. Regular brushing is a must, but even the most dedicated brushers have trouble keeping the grooves free of germs. Dental sealants act as a barrier to food, plaque and acid, thus protecting the decay-prone areas of the teeth. According to the American Dental Association (ADA), sealants reduce your child’s risk of cavities by 80%.

Dental sealants are not only safe but they are minimally invasive. They are made of medical grade resin and are applied with a brush that allows them to flow into the micro grooves and crevices of your littles teeth. Because they are not painful, numbing agents or anesthesia are not required. Also, no drilling is involved, phew!

There are a variety of different medications, which can be used for conscious sedation. Dr. Khatri will prescribe the medication best suited for your child’s overall health and dental treatment recommendations. We will be happy to answer any questions you might have concerning the specific drugs we plan to give to your child.
Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride is nature’s superhero when it comes to fighting cavities! This mighty mineral strengthens enamel, making teeth tougher and more resistant to tooth decay. While brushing with fluoride toothpaste and drinking fluoridated water are great daily habits, in-office fluoride treatments give your child’s smile an extra layer of protection. Quick, safe, and effective; fluoride helps growing teeth stay strong, healthy, and cavity-free.
